Policy and research

We want every child to receive the support they need to thrive and achieve. Our services are a vital element of seeing our vision achieved, but we know that we aren’t going to be in every school in the country. We therefore work with politicians, policy makers and commissioners  throughout the UK to share our expertise, so that any child who needs support can get it. You will be able to read our thoughts on many of the pressing policy issues throughout the year in our news section.

Children in school, ready to learn: SHS Manifesto 2015-2020

Launched in March 2015, our manifesto outlines seven recommendations to increase and improve the support available to children. The recommendations, if enacted by national government, and supported at a local level, would increase the attainment of the most disadvantaged children.

Centre for Social Justice

The CSJ Alliance is a network of community-based charities that the CSJ has identified as models of excellence, effectiveness and innovation in tackling the root causes of poverty in the UK. Member charities provide a voice from the grass roots, contributing evidence to all research and policy development and holding the CSJ accountable.

SHS has provided evidence to the CSJ on a range of topics, including child protection and housing. You can view the latest report we have been quoted in here.
