School-Home Support Staff Conference 2023

On Wednesday, we spent a fantastic day at our annual staff conference, this year kindly hosted by our brilliant corporate partner Vanquis Bank in their offices in Bradford. It was great for our full team, usually based across England, to be together in one space to celebrate and learn from one another. Thank you to Vanquis for providing the ideal location for this special occasion!

Kicking off the day with a panel discussion

We started the day with a panel discussion on the topic ‘Why aren’t children going back to school?’ unpacking the reasons behind the school attendance crisis and how whole family support works to uncover and overcome barriers to education. The panel included Shannon Johnstone from Homelessness Best Practice CIC, Kate Sweeney Deputy Headteacher from Buttershaw Business and Enterprise College, Yolanda Smith from Football Beyond Borders, and Natalie Murrison and Trinity Brown from School-Home Support. Thank you to our panellists for sharing their invaluable thoughts and expertise on this important topic.

Sharing best practice through learning carousel sessions

The afternoon consisted of learning carousel sessions hosted by colleagues from across the organisation, sharing their expertise on a range of different topics. These included mental health and wellbeing, supporting young people at risk of self-harm, our new attendance toolkit, and how to deliver an ‘elevator pitch’ on what we do at School-Home Support!

Congratulations to the winners of our staff awards

Our staff awards are voted for by colleagues, and recognise those who have gone above and beyond in their work and have made a particularly significant impact for the organisation.

This year Laurel, a School-Home Support Practitioner based in London, received the Terry Farrell Award for practitioners and Luke, our Data Analyst, received the Sir Harvey McGrath Award for central team staff. Congratulations to them both for this fantastic achievement!
