‘That’s Entertainment’: A day out for families at The Business Design Centre

News article from March 13, 2017

On Sunday 19th February, some of the families we work with were treated to lunch and a fun-filled afternoon of entertainment at the Business Design Centre in Islington.

The Business Design Centre has been running an annual event – That’s Entertainment – in Islington since 2014. 40 children and parents supported by School-Home Support practitioners were among 200 hosted at this year’s event for a delightful afternoon of tea, lunch, face-painting and entertainment.

That’s Entertainment is generously put on by Business Design Centre staff, and is supported by Islington Giving and a team of volunteers providing a free day of entertainment for families who would otherwise be unable to afford a day out with the children.

The families enjoyed a range of performances, including singing, dancing and magic, and the Mayor of Islington took some time out of her busy schedule to meet the families.

One of the many highlights was the magician, whose array of tricks captivated the entire hall, from small children to parents and grandparents. One of the children described his magic tricks as “mind-blowing”, and one parent said, “We all had a great time – the older children were entertained as were the younger ones so we were all happy. It was a really good day! Thank you.”

SHS Practitioner Marta, who supports some of the families who went along, said, “They all had an amazing time and even asked about the event next year! All the families were genuinely grateful for a day out (especially welcome at the end of a half term) and it was evident from speaking to the children that there was something for everyone! Thank you again for sharing this with us.”

Thank you to the Business Design Centre staff and all the volunteers for putting on such a great event!
