Statement on Department for Education removing requirements to report pupils’ attendance data

News article from June 17, 2021

The Department for Education recently updated their guidance on school reports on pupil performance. Under this guidance, the requirement for schools to report on national curriculum assessments and attendance has changed.

Schools are advised to take a “proportionate approach in deciding what attendance information to include in their pupils’ reports” and “do not have to provide quantitative attendance data.”

With almost 40 years of experience getting children with low attendance back into school, we are monitoring this situation closely and will be speaking with all the schools that we work with to understand how they are interpreting this guidance.

Our Chief Executive, Jaine Stannard, said: “Schools are still under enormous pressure as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. We will continue to work with our partner schools to ensure children are in school, ready to learn.”
