Our event at the City Centre: ‘Specialising our support: ramping up expertise at SHS’

News article from May 8, 2018

On Wednesday 25th April 2018, we welcomed supporters, friends and corporate partners to our annual evening reception at the City Centre. We thanked guests for their ongoing support which has made a lifelong difference to the lives of children who face daily challenges that impede their education and were very pleased to meet new people interested to find out more. The theme of the evening was to highlight the increasingly vital role SHS plays in keeping children safe from harm, and how we have developed our service, adapted our methods and ramped up our expertise in order to reach this aim.

We were delighted to be joined by over sixty guests and by our patrons Tony Adams MBE, former England and Arsenal football captain, and Sir Kenneth Olisa OBE, HM Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London, who also kindly made a speech. Sir Ken amused guests with a few anecdotes but also spoke about the importance of supporting children who slip through the cracks of our education and welfare system. We were also very pleased to be joined by Annie Blackmore, Head of Alternative Provision at Barking and Dagenham, who spoke passionately about the difference SHS practitioners have made to the lives of the young people attending her schools. On the evening, we were additionally happy to share thoughts from some of the children and parents who have been working with SHS practitioners via video. You can watch this video below.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate our successes, and to learn more about School-Home Support and the important role that all our supporters and practitioners play in keeping children safe and helping them into school, ready to learn.
