International Women's Day 2020

International Women's Day 2020

News article from March 17, 2020

International Women’s Day is a day dedicated to honouring the achievements of women throughout history and across the globe and is typically a day for women from all different backgrounds and cultures to come together to fight for gender parity and women’s rights.

Here at SHS, to honour this day, we ran an event with our amazing Blackpool team Kerstin, Amy and Kerry.  It was a brilliantly organised event with an aim for girls to try new activities and embrace being a woman.

The day featured lessons in learning Mandarin, decorating cupcakes, learning self-defence and even included a session in making their own lip balm. The activities were enjoyed by all and helped everyone involved to understand their importance of being a woman and especially showed the group how proud they should be to be a woman.

After the morning sessions, the group had the opportunity to speak to police and army cadets, who explained to the group what they do and the possibility of a career path in the army and how the army is a viable career path for women in particular. The group also had a visit from a rescue dog organisation in which they explain their operations and how they help rescue dogs. The group finished the day with an entertaining game of laser tag, which showed everyone’s true competitive side.

The day was thoroughly enjoyed by all and the group learnt many important lessons on such a crucial day of celebrations.

We would once again like to thank our incredible Blackpool team for their continued hard work and dedication.
