International Women's Day 2019

International Women's Day 2019

News article from March 8, 2019

The theme for

Balance is not a women’s issue, it’s a business issue. The race is on for the gender-balanced boardroom, a gender-balanced government, gender-balanced media coverage, a gender-balance of employees, more gender-balance in wealth, gender-balanced sports coverage…

Gender balance is essential for economies and communities to thrive.

To celebrate and highlight this year’s theme, we took a group of 14-year-old female students from Cumberland School in East London to an aspiration session hosted by SHS corporate partners, the London Stock Exchange Group. The aspiration session began with a special Market Open Ceremony to celebrate International Women’s Day and focused on women-led businesses.

The students were involved in round-table discussions with several women business leaders throughout the morning. Although the business language was new to them, they had some keen observations:

“Women need to work in IT, because the technical people need women to help them talk to each other properly”

“Getting money for your business is harder if you’re a woman”

Networking, lunch, and the chance to have a quick look around LSEG meant the morning got an all-round thumbs up!

Can you spare 30 seconds to give your thoughts on the SHS website?
