Supporting parents in our corporate partnerships

News article from June 12, 2018

We love being able to give something back to our corporate partners, and providing some expertise on how to help prepare children for the transition to secondary school is absolutely our bag!

Family networks within two of our key partners, Nomura and BlackRock, have appreciated being able to offer their staff the opportunity to hear from a School-Home Support (SHS) expert. Lunchtime seminars provide staff, including those who volunteer with School-Home Support, with the space to share their thoughts about their children’s transition to secondary school. The sessions include guidance and top tips on how best to support children with the social practical and emotional issues involved in the move. Staff also get the opportunity to talk to each other about their own hopes and concerns.

“Moving to secondary school is very likely one of the biggest transitions your child will have experienced; ensuring they’re as prepared as they can be, and that you’ve included them in planning for a successful move, will help both parents and children feel more confident about starting secondary.” – Okela Douglas, Training and Development Associate at SHS

We are looking forward to running a few more lunchtime seminars with corporate parents over the next couple of months, including another ‘Transition to Secondary School’ session and ‘Ready for School’ for children starting primary.

School-Home Support works in partnership with business to raise aspirations and ensure vulnerable children have the support they need to succeed at school. We have a range of volunteering opportunities working with children and families we support: please contact Emma Mortoo on 020 7426 5009 or email emma.mortoo@shs.org.uk if you’d like to find out more.
