200 gifts donated by Brown Brothers Harriman!
News article from June 11, 2019
You may remember the success of our Christmas gift drive in 2018, which saw corporate partners and supporters donate presents to 796 children across the country. This was our first time running such a large scale operation and, thanks to the effort and enthusiasm of our brilliant staff, we did it really well.
This success did not go unnoticed, because in 2019 we were contacted by our friends at The Childhood Trust who wanted to connect us with a new corporate supporter, Brown Brothers Harriman Investor Services Ltd.
Brown Brothers Harriman (BBH) kindly offered to put together 200 toiletry gift bags for the young people and families we support in secondary school settings. This demographic was chosen by SHS Coordinators who also selected the specific schools the gifts would be sent to.
Toiletries are a vital commodity which most people buy weekly without much thought. But for families living in poverty, the difficult choice between food and essentials such as deodorant, toothpaste, soap, razors etc. is a continual challenge. Personal hygiene can affect a pupil’s attendance at school – especially with period poverty being a huge issue among young women. That’s why Brown Brothers Harriman’s contribution is so needed, welcomed, and impactful.
Thank you very much to BBH for donating their time, effort and resources to this project – and thank you to the dedicated SHS staff who supported BBH with coordination and distribution.
